A blinding light pulled me out of my dream. Could it be? How? I opened my eyes and saw my bedroom for the first time in 15 years. The burgundy and gold wasn’t as deep as I remembered. A crack zigzagged down the side of the wall. I examined my hand and arms and marveled at the blond hairs. I’d forgotten how hairy I was.
“Julie!” I couldn’t wait to see my wife. I was ready to see grey streaks in her beach blond hair (she told me a number of times how she was glad I couldn’t see how old she’d gotten.) Crows feet and dull pale skin I expected.
What I didn’t expect were the two black children that raced into the room yelling, “Mommy! Daddy’s up and it looks like he can see!”
